A new pedestrian bridge was lifted into place over the railway tracks just west of the station and a new underpass dug in to its east.
Installation of the new infrastructure took from the evening of Friday 23 May to the end of that weekend and saw the closure of the Gippsland line during that time.
The underpass will link Normanby Place to Alfred Street, and when construction of the new car park on the former goods yard site south of the station is completed commuters will be able to take advantage of the bridge.
The gallery below documents the final day of that weekend, which featured the lifting and bolting down of the new pedestrian bridge.
