Manitowoc Company will move its crawler crane manufacturing operations from Manitowoc to Pennsylvania. A press release from the company said the move to a facility in Shady Grove, Pennsylvania will make for a more efficient manufacturing footprint, lower costs and increased margins. The release also noted corporate headquarters and the company’s product engineering and related support functions would remain in Manitowoc.
The company did not immediately disclose how many jobs would be affected.
“I have called the governor and asked for his assistance in seeing what we can do to possibly convince them to stay here in Wisconsin,†said state Representative Paul Tittl (R-Manitowoc). “We’ll do just about everything that we can to try to make them stay.â€
The transition will begin in the third quarter with completion anticipated by the middle of 2017. The company said the move is expected to lead to $25 million to $30 million in savings.
