SALINAS, Calif. —The Salinas community was gearing up for 2014’s rodeo Wednesday.
Crews were busy setting up the stage for Friday’s Brad Paisley concert, which kicks off the week. They were using a 50-ton crane to lift several pillars, measuring 6-stories tall, into place.
“Yeah, it’s a little scary at first because you’re not used to it, but after that you just fly right up those towers, and as long as you’re doing it safely, you shouldn’t have anything to worry about,†said Andy Edwards, a professional rigger.
The Kiddle Kapers Parade and the Colmo Del Rodeo Parade are set for Saturday night in downtown Salinas. On Sunday, organizers will hold the Cowboy Music and Poetry Gathering at Sherwood Hall.
Organizers will hold a golf tournament next Wednesday. The event is sold out.
Tickets for Friday’s concert are still available, but are expected to sell out quickly. Tickets for professional bull riding on next Wednesday are also available.
The 2014 rodeo begins next Thursday and runs through Sunday. Ticket prices vary.
