Scottish crane contractor Weldex is the largest crawler crane rental company in Great Britain. The company is continuing to extend its fleet and over the last two years has ordered 23 new crawler cranes from Liebherr. Their lifting capacities range from 60 to 1000 tonnes.
The majority of the cranes are already in use. The deliveries from the Liebherr plant in Nenzing include for example two LR 1300 cranes, two LR 1160 models and an LR 1130. Two LTR 1100 cranes, an LR 1600/2 and an LR 1500 came among other cranes from the manufacturing plant in Ehingen. This means that Weldex already has two models of the new Liebherr 500-tonne crane in use. An LR 11000 was shipped at the start of November. It is the second of this type in the Weldex fleet. Six LTR 1060 telescopic crawler cranes will follow in February.
Company owner Dougie McGilvray says: “It is important for us to keep our product range right up to date. We have a long term partnership with Liebherr. Not only are the products outstanding, they are matched by the after-sales service. For that reason we will continue to buy cranes from Liebherr.”
Weldex was founded by the McGilvray family in 1979 to provide cranes for construction contractors in Scotland. The company now concentrates fully on crawler cranes and has a global presence. Weldex runs a fleet made up almost completely of Liebherr lattice boom cranes, from a 100-tonne model to the 1350-tonne crane with PowerBoom. The company is also one of the largest operators of Liebherr LTR telescopic crawler cranes in the world.
