Bishop Lifting Products, a wholly owned subsidiary of SBP Holdings, has acquired Kilgore, Texas-based Matex Wire Rope Inc. The purchase is part of Bishop’s plan to grow in Texas and Louisiana. Other acquisitions it has made in the area included Delta Rigging & Tools and Morgan City Rentals.
Matex has branches in Shreveport, La., and Pleasanton, Alice, and Midland, Texas. The combined companies will operate 20 branches in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Colorado.
For more than 50 years, Matex has been a supplier of wire rope and rigging hardware, fabricated slings, and fall protection, and it has provided cable service, re-certifications, and custom lifting solutions. Matex also provides sales, service, and repairs for all types of wire rope and cables, including drilling lines, sandlines, electro-mechanical cable, and other specialty cables. Specialty services include oilfield wireline spooling, electro-mechanical cable splicing, and wireline sheave repair, inspection, and re-certification.
Harold King, president of Bishop Lifting Products, said the addition of Matex complements Bishop’s wire rope and rigging offerings, providing more services to the oil and gas industry. “The acquisition also adds to our capacity and geographic presence to key market customers,” he added.
