The accident took place at a construction site on Bülent Ecevit Avenue. The crane suddenly fell onto the avenue. Residents said they heard an explosion-like sound during the accident. Osman Top (55) and Şerafettin Esen died on the spot after the crane fell on them. Workers Çetin Yılan, Mehmet Gürbüz and Doğan Aytayoğlu were injured as a result.
The injured workers were taken to Karşıyaka State Hospital. No cars or pedestrians were on the avenue at the time of the crash. The bodies of the workers were taken to the İzmir Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the accident.
